Nicky B is an award-winning, highly respected and experienced DJ and music specialist.
She is also a producer, compiler, writer, and educator and for the past 25 years, has been the producer-presenter of ‘The World Show’ on Johannesburg-based radio station kaya959.co.za As a DJ, she is highly popular and much in demand in South Africa; and her international reputation is fast-growing - with her vast repertoire, and unique DJ style, she is widely appreciated for her ability to connect with her audiences.
Nicky B began ‘The World Show’ in 1997, when Kaya FM was launched as the first black-owned, independent radio station in the newly democratic South Africa.
Informative, and largely pan-African, this is a musical journey that travels across continents and timelines. With in-depth interviews and features, it’s a very well-established show with a loyal listenership.
People from all over the world tune in to enjoy her live broadcast & mix of urban, archival, deeply- rooted, contemporary, cutting-edge sounds. As with her DJ sets, each show is entirely unique and each week is a special experience!
In 2018 and 2019 she did two residencies in Paris at Cite Internationale des Arts, the topic of which was ‘MUSICAL MIGRATION’. During, and as part of the residency, she did live DJ performances and broadcast her weekly radio show live from Paris
For the past four decades, Nicky B has been at the forefront of The Arts in South Africa.
As a visual artist, she has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions.
From 1993 to 2000 she was one of the key artists to launch the Public Art Movement in South Africa’s new democracy, and over this period she facilitated more than 70 public art projects across the country and internationally.
